Ryan Flynn to be inducted to Heartland Conference Hall of Fame

LAREDO, Texas (March 2, 2016) – The Heartland Conference has announced the Class of 2016 Hall of Fame Inductees. Ryan Flynn, Head Baseball Coach and former player is one of two inductees. Flynn will be officially inducted on Sunday, March 6th. The ceremony will take place in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the Heartland Conference Basketball Tournament.
 
Flynn stands as one of the most dominant players in TAMIU Baseball history. Through the period of 2007-2009, he played 144 games to rank second on the TAMIU all-time leader's list, starting every game in his career except one. He litters other all-time statistical categories as well, including firsts in batting average (.372), RBI (121), walks (79), on-base percentage (.472), sacrifice flies (tied, 8), defensive assists (356). Flynn stands in the top five all-time in at-bats (second, 460), slugging percentage (third, .500), hits (second, 171), runs scored (second, 107), doubles (second, 30), home runs (fourth, 9), and hit by pitch (tied for fourth, 16). He resides within the top of multiple single-season statistics records. All three of his single-season on-base percentages rank in the program's top eight, and his 130 defensive putouts in 2009 stand as the program's fifth-highest total. In the Heartland Conference record book, he sits in 9th place for all-time on-base percentage with a .472. Flynn was named to the All-Heartland Conference First Team as a Shortstop and Utility player twice. Additionally Flynn was named to the All-Heartland Conference Second Team at Second Base twice.
 
Flynn returned to his alma mater to give back his knowledge and passion for baseball. He has served as the Head Coach for TAMIU Baseball for the past two seasons (2015 and 2016). Flynn always has been a mentor for the Dustdevils, as he served as an assistant coach since 2012, and represented the team as a coach and captain during his years of playing baseball at TAMIU (2007-2009).
 
The induction ceremony can be viewed online, free of charge through the Heartland Conference. The ceremony will take place during halftime of the Women's Basketball Championship game. The game is set to tip-off at 1 pm CST. Click HERE for the Youtube stream.
