WACO, Texas (September 4, 2017) – Junior Carlos Herrera of the Texas A&M International University men's soccer team earned Heartland Conference Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Dustdevils to two consecutive shutouts to start the season for the first time since 2003. He is the first Dustdevil goalkeeper to earn the honors since Emmanuel Frias in 2011.
 
Herrera was a key part of a Dustdevils team that earned back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 2012. The San Leandro, Calif. native made seven saves in goal over the weekend but none bigger than in  Sunday's double overtime against Fort Lewis on a point blank shot in the 104^th minute to preserve the draw.
 
The Dustdevils will return home to train for the next week before heading to Austin for their Heartland Conference opener against #9 St. Edward's on Sept. 14.
