Felipe Arias

Felipe Arias recently completed his third season as the head coach of the women’s soccer program at Texas A&M International University. 
 
This past season (2018), Arias led the Dustdevils to a 4-12 record with three of those wins coming in conference play. The win total is the most he has tallied while at the helm at TAMIU.  

During the 2017 campaign, Cio Bargallo had one of the best offensive performances in program history breaking the school record for most goals (17) and total points scored (34) in a single season en route to being named the Heartland Conference’s Offensive Player of the Year. Bargallo became the first Dustdevil to earn 1st Team D2CCA South Central Region honors while also earning 3rd Team United Soccer Coaches All-Region recognition.
 
During his first season in charge, the Dustdevils finished 1-16-1 in 2016 while freshman Bargallo earned 3rd Team All-Heartland Conference honors after scoring a team-high six goals and setting a school record for shots in a season. 
 
Previously to being named the head coach of the women’s program, Arias served as an assistant for the Dustdevils for three years under his brother, Claudio. The brothers reunited for the first time since playing together at Bryan College in Dayton, Tenn.

Arias will reunited and team up with his brother, Texas A&M International head men’s and women’s soccer coach Claudio Arias, for the first time since the pair played together at Bryan College in Dayton, Tenn.
 
Felipe grew up playing as a goalkeeper in his native Concepción, Chile, before transitioning into a traditional midfielder role for the Lions.
 
He was offered professional opportunities to play in Chile, but instead opted to pursue his higher education in the form of a B.A. in Psychology from Bryan College in and a M.A. in Mental Health Counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, Fla.
 
As a Lion, Arias earned high acclaim in his junior and senior seasons. He was named an All-American by the National Christian College Athletic Association and was named Most Valuable Player. 
 
As a coach with a decade and a half of experience in Florida and Maine, Arias has coached both boys’ and girls’ soccer in a premier club and high school level.
 
Before relocating to Laredo, Arias served as a director of coaching for the Central Maine United Soccer Club’s Premier level.  He holds coaching certifications with the U.S. Soccer Federation and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
 
Splitting time with coaching, he worked as an individual and group counselor and support group coordinator.
 
Arias, when off the pitch, is passionate about the performing arts. He has been active in community musical theater, has recorded two Spanish albums, and been a contributing part of local Opera and benefit musical events in Waterville and Pittsfield, Maine.
 
Arias and his wife Brigitte have been married for 22 years and have four children – Melanie, Paula, Gabriel and Samuel. Both Melanie and Paula are NCAA student-athletes at Union University in Jackson, Tenn.
