UT-Permian Basin defeated Texas A&M International University 2-1 in Heartland Conference action on Tuesday afternoon in Odessa. Combined with a 2-1 win on Sept. 5 in Laredo today's result boosts the Falcons to a sweep in the two-game season series against the Dustdevils.
UTPB (5-7, 3-3 Heartland) took a 1-0 lead on a Luis Paiva score from 20 yards out in the 14th minute. Raul Quinoñes would get TAMIU even on a successful penalty kick in the 73rd minute.
Carlos Guillen scored the game-winner for the Falcons on a short-range shot into the net in the 79th minute. UTPB finished with a 16-7 edge in shots taken in the contest. TAMIU goalkeeper Noé Pantoja finished with three saves.
TAMIU (3-5-2, 0-3-2) will continue its five-game road swing with a trip to Oklahoma and Kansas next weekend. The Dustdevils will play a non-conference game at Northeastern State (Okla.) next Friday before making the trek to Wichita, Kan. for a Heartland Conference contest against Newman on Sunday.
