Texas A&M International University entered Wednesday night's Heartland Conference match against St. Edward's playing its best volleyball of the season. The Dustdevils kept the momentum going with their most impressive win of the season, a three-game sweep (30-21, 30-22, 32-30) of the Hilltoppers.
TAMIU (6-11, 4-3) moves into fourth place in the Heartland Conference standings with the win, a half game behind St. Mary's. The Dustdevils have won five of their last six outings.
Nicole Gipson turned in another solid performance in the win, finishing with 11 kills and no hitting errors on 26 attempts. She also finished with a team-high 10 blocks. Gipson accounted for 10 points in the pivotal second game with seven kills and three blocks.
Ladys Montaño led TAMIU with 14 kills. Madison Mojica led the squad with 23 digs and Mary Koch contributed a team-high 36 assists.
Brittany Smith finished second on the squad with eight blocks. TAMIU had an overall solid night at the net, finishing with 19 team blocks.
Amy Johnson led St. Edward's (10-9, 3-4) with 11 kills.
TAMIU plays its third home match in as many nights on Thursday when Texas A&M-Kingsville visits Laredo. The Javelinas defeated the Dustdevils in four games on Sept. 18 in Kingsville.
