Texas A&M International University fought back from an early 1-0 deficit to record a dramatic 2-1 overtime win over Dallas Baptist on Saturday afternoon at Dustdevil Field.
Dallas Baptist (2-8, 0-4) took a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick goal by Mandy Gómez only one minute into the game. TAMIU would take eight shots in the first half but the game went to halftime with the Patriots holding the one goal edge.
Judith Rodríguez and Cassie Delgado would team up to put TAMIU on the board in the 56th minute. Rodríguez crossed the ball from 10 yards out on the left side of the goal to the right post where Delgado blasted it into the net from point blank range to even the score.
The game-winning goal would be even more dramatic. After ending at 1-1 in regulation, TAMIU scored the game-winner less than two minutes into the overtime period.
The game winning goal was achieved when Melissa Medrano's free kick squirted out of the pack in front of the DBU goal and Sandy Hernández seized the opportunity and drilled the ball into the right side of the net from 10 yards out.
TAMIU (2-8-1, 1-3-1) finished with a 14-13 edge in shots taken while DBU finished with a 9-8 edge in shots on goal. Goalkeeper Mary Jo Hall finished with eight saves for the Dustdevils while Emily Evans recorded six saves for the Patriots.
TAMIU will plays its next five games on the road before returning to Dustdevil Field to close-out the season with two home games. The lengthy road trek starts next Friday with a conference road contest at St. Edward's.
