Final Stats
Texas A&M International University opened the 2007-08 season with a 61-55 win over Western New Mexico on Thursday night at the Kinesiology and Convocation Building on campus. The win marks the third straight season the Dustdevils have started the season in the win column.
The game was tight throughout the evening with eight lead changes. The score was tied 53-53 with 3:43 remaining before the Dustdevils ended the game with an 8-2 run. TAMIU made five of six free throw attempts in the final two minutes to secure the win.
Jasmine June turned in an outstanding performance, finishing with 18 points, nine rebounds, six assists and five steals. Nicole Gipson added 17 points and six rebounds and freshman Erika Rosas notched 11 points in her first game as a Dustdevil.
TAMIU (1-0) returns to action on Saturday with a home game against NAIA power Wayland Baptist. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
