Texas A&M International University defeated Midwestern State 70-66 in overtime at the St. Edward's Classic on Saturday afternoon. It was the second straight overtime game for the Dustdevils, who opened the Classic with a loss to Fort Lewis College on Friday afternoon.
TAMIU made eight of eight free throw shots in the last 1:48 of the game. That pushed the Dustdevils from a 63-62 deficit to their first win of the season.
Junior Chris Swan turned in another solid performance, finishing with a team-high 21 points and seven rebounds. Austin native Ignacio García also had a good night with 15 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Derek Barnes finished with 14 points and Sean Tucker contributed 12 points.
TAMIU (1-2) will play its home season-opener on Tuesday night against Texas A&M-Kingsville. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 at the Kinesiology and Convocation Building on campus.
