Mary Tobias and Jasmine June scored 20 points apiece to lead Texas A&M International University to a 66-49 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville on Tuesday night at the Kinesiology and Convocation Building on campus. It was TAMIU's first win over TAMUK, which entered the game with a 3-0 lead in the all-time series.
Kingsville held a 30-27 halftime lead but TAMIU opened the second half with an 8-3 run to take a 35-33 lead on a June jumper with 15:52 remaining in regulation. TAMIU took a commanding 56-46 lead with 4:26 remaining on a Nicole Gipson jumper that was set up by a steal and half court length assist from Tobias. The Dustdevils would lead by double digits the rest of the way.
Nicole Gipson led the Dustdevils with 10 rebounds and three blocks. Chevelle Hoyle had a solid outing, finishing with 11 points and nine rebounds.
TAMIU (3-2) will take a week off before participating in the Houston Baptist Classic on Dec. 4-5. The Dustdevils will play Houston Baptist and Harding in that tournament.
