Final Stats
Texas A&M International University closed out the 2007 season in an impressive way on Sunday at Dustdevil Field. TAMIU defeated Incarnate Word for the time first ever, escaping with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Cardinals.
UIW held a 4-0-1 advantage in the all-time series entering today's game. The two teams tied 0-0 earlier this season in San Antonio.
Adeyemi Gill scored the game's only goal in the 20th minute. After receiving a long pass from Soamy Bautista, Gill glided past a Cardinal defender before putting the ball in the net from 12 yards out.
UIW finished with a decisive 12-5 edge in shots taken but a determined Dustdevil defense refused to break. Freshman goalkeeper Juan Pablo Muñoz made four saves in 62 minutes between the posts before being relieved by senior Noé Pantoja.
Pantoja made the most of his 28 minutes played on senior day. The Cigarroa High School grad made four saves, including a stop of a short-range blast to the top of the net by UIW's Michael Terrell in the 87th minute.
TAMIU (7-8-2, 3-5-2 Heartland) closes the season with a two-game winning streak against Heartland Conference opponents.
