Texas A&M International fought back from a two- game hole to defeat Dallas Baptist in five games (24-30, 27-30, 30-27, 30-24, 15-13) in Heartland Conference volleyball action on Saturday afternoon at the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building.
TAMIU (1-7, 1-1 Heartland) trailed 10-5 in game five before going on a 10-3 tear to secure its first win of the season. Ladys Montaño closed out the match with two consecutive kills with Nicole Gipson contributing three kills and two blocks in the deciding game.
Gipson led the Dustdevils with 15 kills while Montaño notched 13 kills and a team-high 19 digs. Brittany Smith finished with 10 kills and a team-high nine blocks. Mary Koch contributed 43 assists for the Dustdevils.
Three DBU (3-4, 0-2) players finished with double-figure kill totals, led by Amanda Emmert's 17 kills. Erin Black led the Lady Patriots with 27 digs.
TAMIU returns to action on Tuesday with a road match at Texas A&M-Kingsville. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
