Incarnate Word defeated Texas A&M International University 2-1 in Heartland Conference women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon at Dustdevil Field. With the win the Cardinals claim a 2-0 season sweep over the Dustdevils.
Incarnate Word (5-1-1, 2-0) took a 1-0 lead when Lianah Flores capped off a run through the middle with a short range goal in the third minute. That score would stand until Ashley Phipps pounced on a loose ball and scored from five yards out in the 64th minute.
Sandy Hernández put TAMIU on the board with a line drive into the net from 25 yards with only seconds remaining in the game.
Dustdevil goalkeeper Mary Jo Hall turned in another solid performance with eight saves. She has made a total of 17 saves in TAMIU's last two outings.
TAMIU (1-6, 0-2) returns to action on Friday with a non-conference game against Midwestern State. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Dustdevil Field.
