Dustdevils Win Heartland Conference Opener

Texas A&M International University opened Heartland Conference play with a 92-73 win over UT-Permian Basin on Thursday night at the Falcon Dome in Odessa.

TAMIU (5-8, 1-0 Heartland) went on a 13-3 run midway through the second half to build a 60-55 lead into a 73-58 advantage at the 7:48 mark. The Dustdevils would lead by double-digits the rest of the way against UTPB (1-14, 0-1).

Jasmine June contributed a season-high 30 points for the Dustdevils. She also contributed a team-high nine rebounds, three assists and three steals. Nicole Gipson contributed 14 points and eight rebounds with Chevelle Hoyle adding 11 points and two steals.

TAMIU returns to action on Saturday night at Panhandle State. The game against the Lady Aggies will conclude a nine-game road swing.
