Final Stats
Incarnate Word defeated Texas A&M International University 67-54 in Heartland Conference action on Thursday night at the Kinesiology and Convocation Building.
UIW (9-7, 3-0 Heartland) finished the first half with a 15-7 run en route to posting a 33-26 halftime lead. TAMIU (5-10, 1-2) got within one point twice in the second half but the Cardinals would not relinquish the lead.
The Dustdevils cut the lead to 45-44 on a jumper by Beth Hampton at the 10:10 mark but UIW responded with a 13-4 run to build an insurmountable 58-48 lead at the 4:56 mark.
Incarnate Word dominated the boards in the contest, finishing with a 46-21 rebounding edge. Nia Torru led the Cardinals with 11 rebounds. Kim Robinson finished with a team-high 19 points.
Nicole Gipson led TAMIU with 15 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Jasmine June contributed 12 points for the Dustdevils.
TAMIU returns to action next Thursday against St. Mary's. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on home court.
