Final Stats
Incarnate Word defeated Texas A&M International University 95-81 on Thursday night at the Kinesiology and Convocation Building.
UIW (10-6) scorched the nets in jumping out to a 53-31 halftime lead. The Cardinals made eight of 11 three-pointers, 19 of 32 field goal attempts and seven of seven free throws in the game's opening 20 minutes.
The Cardinals would cool off in the second half but TAMIU (4-9) would get no closer than 12 points. Incarnate Word still held a 21-point lead at the 6:41 mark before TAMIU closed the gap with a 25-18 run to make the game closer.
Pierce Caldwell made five of six three-pointers and led Incarnate Word with 31 points.
Derek Barnes led TAMIU with 21 points. Chris Swan finished with 15 points and eight rebounds and Ignacio García contributed 12 points and seven rebounds.
TAMIU returns to action on Saturday with a road game at Dallas Baptist. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
