Hilltoppers Outlast Dustdevils

Final Stats

St. Edward's defeated Texas A&M International University 93-81 in a physical battle on Saturday night at the Kinesiology & Convocation Building.

The game was back-and-forth in the first half with SEU (13-5) scoring two field goals in the final 26 seconds to take a 43-40 halftime lead. The Hilltoppers then opened the second half with a 14-8 run to post a 57-48 lead at the 14:45 mark.

TAMIU (6-10) would battle back to cut the lead to 59-56 on a Spencer Foreman layup at the 11:53 mark but SEU responded with a 13-5 run to build a 72-61 lead at the 8:30 mark. The Dustdevils would get no closer than six points the rest of the game.

Each team was charged with 27 fouls. St. Edward's made 23 of 35 free throws while TAMIU made 19 of 30 shots from the charity stripe. SEU finished with a 45-30 rebounding edge.

Chris Swan led the Dustdevils with 23 points, two assists, two blocks and two steals. Sean Tucker contributed 15 points and Derek Barnes added 11 points.

TAMIU returns to action next Thursday with a home game against Newman. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
