Texas A&M International University earned its first Heartland Conference win on the season with a 3-2 decision over Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday at the Kinesiology & Convocation Building. The result also snapped a six-match losing streak.
The Dustdevils and Aggies split the first four sets with OPSU taking sets one and four and TAMIU winning sets two and three and. The Dustdevils jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the fifth and deciding set en route to a 15-7 win. TAMIU later scored four straight points to stretch a 7-4 lead to 11-4.
Freshman Isela Flores recorded three of her team-high 16 kills in the final set. She also led the squad with 16 digs. Nicole Gipson finished with 13 kills and seven blocks and Danielle Gilley tallied 48 assists.
TAMIU (4-17, 1-6 Heartland) continues its seven-match home stand on Thursday against UT-Permian Basin. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
