Final Stats
Texas A&M International University defeated St. Mary's 2-0 in Heartland Conference action on Sunday night in a physical contest at Dustdevil Field. A total of 27 fouls and 13 cards were issued in a game that extended TAMIU's winning streak to six games.
TAMIU (9-4, 3-3 Heartland) claimed the win with two close-range scores. Albert Escovar scored from five yards out on a play started by Greg Mulamba at the top of the box in the 41st minute to stake the Dustdevils to a 1-0 lead. Enrique Reyes pushed the lead to 2-0 by driving a Roy Hernández cross into the net from 12 yards out in the 75th minute.
TAMIU finished with a 10-9 shot advantage over St. Mary's (3-8, 0-6) and a 3-2 edge in shots on goal. Juan Pablo Muñoz went the distance in goal for the Dustdevils, finishing with two saves for the evening.
The current six-game winning streak is one game short of the school record winning streak, established in the program's inaugural campaign in 2003. TAMIU will attempt to tie that mark when it returns to action against Newman on Friday. Kickoff for that contest is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Dustdevil Field.
