Final Stats
Texas A&M International University entered Friday night's home game against Newman as one of the hottest teams in the Heartland Conference. The Dustdevils kept that momentum going with an easy 5-0 conference win in front of 212 fans at Dustdevil Field.
TAMIU (10-4, 4-3 Heartland) exploded for three goals in a 10 minute span midway through the first half to build an insurmountable 3-0 lead. Adeymi Gill got things rolling by putting a backwards pass from Victor García into the net in the 19th minute. Albert Escovar scored in the 21st and 28th minutes to push the Dustdevils to the big lead.
Victor García blasted a shot into the net from 10 yards out in the 42nd minute to build the lead to 4-0. The second half was relatively evenly played but TAMIU did add a score when Greg Mulamba found the right post on a free kick from 20 yards out in the 77th minute.
TAMIU out-shot Newman (5-6-4, 2-2-2) 19-7 with a 10-2 edge in shots on goal. Luis Rincon recorded two saves in a complete game effort for the Dustdevils.
TAMIU will return to action on Sunday with a home game against UT-Permian Basin. A win over the Falcons would establish a school-record eight game winning streak. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
