Dustdevils Edge Falcons For Landmark Win

Oct. 26, 2008

Final Stats

Texas A&M International University has won in a lot of different fashions this season. On Sunday night the Dustdevils found a way to victory with a grinding 1-0 win over UT-Permian Basin at Dustdevil Field. The result pushes TAMIU's winning streak to a school record eight games.

The only goal of the game was scored when Victor García headed a long cross from Jorge Zanata into the net in the 10th minute. UTPB would create several scoring opportunities the rest of the way but an outstanding effort by goalkeeper Juan Pablo Muñoz paved the way to another win.

Muñoz made eight saves, tying his season-high mark in that category. He made back-to-back saves on two rapid fire shots midway through the first half before making an outstanding diving stop on a header by Manuel Montes in the 79th minute.

UTPB (6-6-4, 1-4-2) finished with an 11-9 shot advantage. Falcon goalkeeper Gage Peterson kept his team in contention with six saves.

TAMIU will play its final home game of the season on Friday night against Eastern New Mexico. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
