Final Stats
Texas A&M International University entered this afternoon's game at St. Mary's on a roll. The Dustdevils kept the momentum going with a 3-2 Heartland Conference win over the Rattlers.
The result extends TAMIU's winning streak to four games and pushes the Dustdevils to three games over .500 for the first time since the 2005 season. TAMIU (7-4 overall, 2-3 Heartland) also improved its all-time record against St. Mary's to 5-4.
Roy Hernández scored two goals in the win, pushing his team-leading season goal total to seven. He put the Dustdevils up 1-0 by flicking the ball over the goalkeepers head in eighth minute before expanding the lead to 3-1 with a blast into the upper left corner of the net from 15 yards out in the 59th minute. Adeyemi Gill pushed the Dustdevils to a 2-1 halftime lead with a shot into the net from the far side to the opposite corner in the 42nd minute.
St. Mary's (3-6, 0-4) out-shot TAMIU 16-7 but goalkeeper Juan Pablo Muñoz kept the Dustdevils in the contest with four saves in a complete-game effort.
TAMIU will play its next five games at the friendly confines of Dustdevil Field. That stretch starts this Sunday with a non-conference tilt against St. Thomas. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Dustdevil Field.
