Dec. 2, 2008

Final Stats

Texas Woman's defeated Texas A&M International University 80-68 in non-conference action on Tuesday night in Denton. The game was the first meeting between the Dustdevils and Lone Star Conference member Pioneers.

TAMIU (3-4) opened the game with a 6-0 run and the teams exchanged the lead before TWU (5-0) tied the score 31-31 on a Jessica Durr free throw at the 2:57 mark of the first half. The Dustdevils would end the half with a 7-2 run to claim a 38-33 lead at the break.

That lead would stretch to seven points early in the second half but Texas Woman's would fight back to take control midway through the period. The Pioneers went on a 9-0 run from the 11:26 mark to the 9:08 mark to stretch a one-point lead to a 61-51 margin.

Mary Tobias would cut the lead to 63-60 on a jumper at the 6:38 mark but the Dustdevils would make only two of six field attempts the rest of the way and TWU secured the home win.

Jasmine June led the Dustdevils with 21 points and seven rebounds. Mary Tobias notched 14 points, three assists and two steals and Krystal Manning contributed 11 points.

TAMIU will take a two week break before returning to action with a home game against Missouri Southern on Dec. 15. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
