Final Stats
Dallas Baptist edged Texas A&M International University 114-109 in a high-scoring contest on Thursday night at the Kinesiology & Convocation Building.
DBU (12-14) got off to a fast start, jumping out 32-18 before taking a 37-26 lead on a Manny Montano jumper at the 7:34 mark of the first half. TAMIU made six three pointers in the final six minutes of the first half to battle back for the 52-50 halftime lead.
The Patriots and Dustdevils would trade the lead a couple of times before DBU took an 83-81 lead on a Eddie Gloviak layup at the 8:55 mark of the second half. The Patriots would build that lead to 10 points at the 5:38 mark before TAMIU made its final push of the evening.
The Dustdevils cut the lead to 104-103 on an Ignacio García layup at the 3:42 mark but TAMIU would miss their next three field goal attempts before scoring again on a Chris Swan free throw at the 1:46 mark, cutting the lead to 107-103.
Dallas Baptist would seal the win by making two of two field goals and two of two free throws after Swan's free throw. Braxton Adamson made the two free throws with only two seconds remaining on the clock.
Swan led the Dustdevils with 24 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and two blocks. He has recorded double-doubles in three games this season, accomplishing the feat in back-to-back games including tonight's contest.
Sean Tucker finished with 20 points and eight rebounds and Derek Barnes contributed 19 points and five assists.
TAMIU (8-14) returns to action on Saturday night at St. Edward's. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Austin.
