Final Stats

Texas A&M-Kingsville defeated Texas A&M International University 10-7 in non-conference action on Tuesday night at Veterans Field. It was the first win for the Javelinas in three all-time games against the Dustdevils.

TAMUK (1-1) broke a 3-3 tie with a five-run fourth inning. The Javelinas sent 10 batters to the plate in that frame, collecting five hits and benefiting from two Dustdevil errors.

Sam Strickland (1-0) picked up the win for Kingsville in a relief role. He entered the game in the fifth inning with Kingsville holding a 9-4 lead.

Strickland struck out seven in 4.0 innings, allowing only one unearned run. He would leave the game with TAMUK in control 10-5.

TAMIU (1-3) scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, on RBI singles by Ryan Flynn and Gordon Muhammad. It was the first at bat of the season for Muhammad, who was hitting for Danny Cornejo. Mason Dixon grounded into a bases loaded fielder's choice to end the game.

TAMIU will open Heartland Conference play this weekend with a home series against UT-Permian Basin. The teams will play two doubleheaders at Veterans Field, with first pitch scheduled for noon on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday.
