Final Stats
St. Mary's defeated Texas A&M International University 8-3 in Heartland Conference action on Saturday afternoon in San Antonio. The result wraps up a three-game sweep for the Rattlers over the Dustdevils.
TAMIU (10-20, 9-16 Heartland) took a 1-0 lead on a RBI double by Ryan Flynn in the top of the first inning. St. Mary's (21-7, 18-4 Heartland) would send seven batters to the plate in the second inning in taking a 2-1 lead.
Gordon Muhammad tied the score 2-2 with a RBI single in the fourth but the Rattlers would take the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of that frame. The Rattlers secured the sweep with two runs apiece in the fifth and sixth innings.
Rey Alvarez and Flynn finished with two hits apiece, accounting for half of TAMIU's eight hits. Alvarez scored twice and Flynn finished with two RBI.
Angel Encinas (3-2) took the loss for the Dustdevils after allowing four runs on two hits in a 4.0 inning outing.
TAMIU returns to action with a non-conference home game against UT-Brownsville on Tuesday. First pitch between the Dustdevils and Scorpions is scheduled for noon at Veterans Field.
