St. Edward's swept Texas A&M International University in Heartland Conference doubleheader action on Friday afternoon at Lucian-Hamilton Field in Austin. Both games were one-run contests, 1-0 in the opener and 3-2 in the second game.

St. Edward's won the opener on a leadoff home run by Bradley Goldsmith in the fifth inning.

Paul Routos (2-4) took the loss for the Dustdevils despite turning in an outstanding effort. He kept the Hilltoppers off-balance for the duration, scattering five hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Goldsmith's home run was the only extra base hit for SEU.

TAMIU finished with seven hits against Hilltopper ace Josh Dale (7-1), who got the win with his second shutout and fourth complete game of the season. The Dustdevils two best scoring opportunities were in the fifth and sixth innings.

TAMIU had runners on first and second with two outs in the fifth when Blaine Monteau hit a ground ball that was misplayed by SEU shortstop Jeremy Houser. Arek Zambanini took third on the error but was tagged out diving back into the bag after falling down rounding the base.

Danny Cornejo and Rey Alvarez hit back-to-back singles with two outs in the sixth inning. They advanced to second and third after a passed ball but the threat ended when Ricky Sánchez struck out swinging.

SEU (36-15, 34-11 Heartland) took a 3-0 lead in the second game on a solo home run by Adam Wolotira in the second inning and RBI singles by Sean Hilbe and Jeremy Houser in the third inning.

Cornejo accounted for TAMIU's (18-33, 16-28 Heartland) run production for the day with a two-run blast over the left field fence in the sixth inning. It was his team-leading tenth home run of the season.

Monteau hit a single to right field to load the bases in the bottom of the eighth inning but the game ended when Jason Bonugli hit into a 1-2-3 double play.

Daniel López (3-9) took the loss for the Dustdevils. He allowed three runs on eight hits with four strikeouts in a 5.1 inning outing.

TAMIU and SEU will conclude the series with a single nine-inning game on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
