Final Stats
Incarnate Word defeated Texas A&M International University 2-0 in Heartland Conference action on Sunday night at Dustdevil Field. A total of eight yellow cards and one red card were issued in the hotly-contested affair.
UIW (4-1, 2-0 Heartland) claimed the win with two short-range second half goals. Esteban Bayona headed in a Troy Thompson corner kick in the 49th minute to stake the Cardinals to a 1-0 lead before Ian Ankney put one in the net from about 10 yards out at a left angle in the 57th minute.
TAMIU (3-4, 1-3) managed five shots on goal but UIW goalkeeper Gil Ben Nachum made saves on all five to help boost his team to a shutout win. Dustdevil goalkeeper Juan Pablos Muñoz recorded eight saves in a complete-game effort.
TAMIU will try to snap a two-game losing streak when it returns to action next Friday night with a home game against Northeastern State. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Dustdevils defeated NSU 2-1 on Aug. 31 in Tahlequah, Okla.
