Texas A&M International University picked up a monumental win on Monday afternoon in Dallas. The Dustdevils defeated nationally-ranked West Texas A&M 2-1 in a neutral site game. WTAMU entered the contest ranked 13th in the latest NSCAA/adidas top-25 poll.
TAMIU (5-4 overall) won the game on two second half goals. Albert Escovar found the back of the net on a near post shot from 15 yards out in the 65th minute before Roy Hernández scored from six yards out in the 86th minute. Hernández's game-winner was created off of an Escovar scoring opportunity.
Stats were not immediately available for the game. It is known that TAMIU goalkeeper Juan Pablo Muñoz was credited with three saves.
WTAMU (6-2) held a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series with TAMIU before today's result. The Buffaloes also entered today's game with a five-game winning streak, outscoring opponents 16-0 during that stretch.
TAMIU returns to action on Sunday with a road game at Eastern New Mexico. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. in Portales, N.M.
