Newman Edges TAMIU With Last Minute Goal

Newman defeated Texas A&M International University 2-1 in Heartland Conference action on Sunday in Wichita, Kan. The loss snaps a four-game TAMIU winning streak that dated back to the end of last season.

TAMIU (2-1, 0-1 Heartland) took a 1-0 lead on an Albert Escovar score in 43rd minute, Christian Salazar was credited with the assist. Newman (2-3, 2-0) would tie the score in the 43rd minute before scoring the game-winner in the 89th minute on a goal off of a free kick from 45 yards out by William Peppard.

TAMIU out-shot Newman 17-5 with a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal. Starting Dustdevil goalkeeper Luis Rincon finished with one save with Newman goalkeeper Emmanuel Gutíerrez finished with five saves.

The Dustdevils return to action next Friday at Midwestern State. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Wichita Falls
