Final Stats

St. Edward's defeated Texas A&M International University 86-75 in Heartland Conference action on Saturday afternoon in Austin.

The game was close early on with Sean Tucker cutting the St. Edward's lead to 26-21 on a jumper at the 8:37 mark of the first half. SEU (11-7, 5-2 Heartland) went on a 14-2 run from that point to build a 40-23 lead at the 5:07 mark.

TAMIU (4-12, 2-4) cut the lead to 42-32 on a layup by Ignacio García at the 1:49 mark but the Dustdevils missed three field goal attempts the rest of the half and St. Edward's claimed a 46-33 halftime lead.

The Dustdevils fought back in the second half, cutting the lead to 62-56 on a Chris Buttermore layup at the 8:53 mark. SEU answered with an 8-0 run to build an insurmountable 70-56 lead at the 6:26 mark. TAMIU would get no closer than 10 points the rest of the way.

Sean Tucker led the Dustdevils with a career-high 27 points. Ignacio García contributed his first career double-double, finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

TAMIU returns to action on Thursday with a Heartland Conference contest at Newman. Tip-off against the Jets is scheduled for 8 p.m.
