Texas A&M International University earned a huge win on Friday night in San Antonio by edging Incarnate Word 1-0 in Heartland Conference action. The result places TAMIU atop the conference standings with a 4-0-1 league mark and 13 points.
Soamy Bautista scored the game's only goal on a one-timer off of a cross from Roy Hernández in the 60th minute. UIW managed just one shot on goal after TAMIU took the lead but Dustdevil goalkeeper Luis Rincon made a save to preserve the win.
Rincon made nine saves for the game compared to four saves for UIW goalkeeper Ryan Eschenburg.
TAMIU (5-5-2 overall) plays another important road game on Sunday at St. Edward's. The Hilltoppers are in third place in the Heartland Conference standings with three wins and nine points after dropping St. Mary's 4-0 earlier on Friday. Kickoff for Sunday's TAMIU at SEU contest is scheduled for 1 p.m.
