Oct. 2, 2009

Final Stats

St. Mary's defeated Texas A&M International University 2-1 in overtime Heartland Conference action on Friday afternoon in San Antonio. The loss is TAMIU's first against the Rattlers since a 2-1 setback on Oct. 19, 2007.

St. Mary's (4-5-1, 2-1-1 Heartland) took a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute on a goal by Robson Prichett. Soamy Bautista provided the equalizer for TAMIU (3-4-2, 3-1-1) on a shot into the net in the 85th minute.

The game went into overtime after the late Dustdevil goal but that overtime did not last long. A foul was called on TAMIU roughly 30 seconds into the overtime period, setting up a Sean Strater free kick that from 40 yards out that skimmed off a Dustdevil defender before going into the net for the winning goal for the Rattlers.

The game was evenly played with each team finishing with 11 shots. TAMIU goalkeeper Luis Rincon finished with six saves and StMU goalkeeper Brett Collier with five saves.

TAMIU returns to action on Sunday with a non-conference road game at West Texas A&M. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
