Final Stats
Boosted by a good night of shooting, Tarleton State defeated Texas A&M International University 68-50 in opening night action of the Tarleton State Tournament on Friday in Stephenville. The Texans connected on over 50 percent of their field goal attempts (24 of 44) while the Dustdevils made less than 40 percent of their field goal attempts (19 of 49).
Tarleton State (2-0) led 34-14 at the 2:18 mark of the first half before TAMIU (0-2) went on a 6-0 run to cut the halftime deficit to 34-20.
The Dustdevils fought back early in the second, cutting the lead to 42-36 on a jumper by St. Paul Latham at the 12:41 mark. Corin Henry pushed TSU's lead to 48-38 on a layup at the 9:29 mark, however, and the Texans would lead by double-digits the rest of the game.
Latham led the Dustdevils with 21 points, making eight of 12 field goal attempts. Bernard Burnell finished with 11 points and six rebounds and Christian Jones contributed eight points and five assists.
TAMIU will close-out tournament action tomorrow night against another Lone Star Conference foe, Angelo State. With tonight's result the Dustdevils are now 2-15 all-time against LSC opponents.
