Final Stats
Texas A&M International University split a doubleheader with Texas Woman's on Thursday afternoon in San Antonio. The Dustdevils snapped a 20-game losing streak with a 13-7 win in the opener before the Pioneers claimed a 9-5 win in game two.
TAMIU (1-3) exploded for a nine-run second inning in the opener behind a grand slam by Ryanne Chapman and a three-run home run by Samantha García. TWU (3-1) scored late but the Dustdevils kept pace with one run apiece in the fourth and fifth innings and a two-run sixth inning.
García, Victoria Beltran and Raynelle Tagle finished with two hits apiece in the win. Beltran (1-1) picked up her first win of the season after allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits with three walks in 5.1 innings of work.
TAMIU led 2-0 after three innings in game two before TWU notched an eight-run fourth inning. The Dustdevils rallied for three runs in the fifth inning but would go scoreless the final two frames.
Clarissa Salinas (0-2) took the loss for the Dustdevils. She allowed five runs on six hits in 4.2 innings of work.
TAMIU will play Abilene Christian in a single game on Friday in San Antonio before returning to Laredo for the home opening series this weekend. The Dustdevils will face Texas Wesleyan this Saturday and Sunday at Dustdevil Softball Field on campus.
