Cardinals Drop Dustdevils By 15 Points

Incarnate Word defeated Texas A&M International University 85-70 in Heartland Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the TAMIU Kinesiology & Convocation Building. The result reversed a 76-73 Dustdevil win over the Cardinals on Jan. 17 in San Antonio.

After trailing 40-28 at halftime, TAMIU (8-13, 5-3 Heartland) started the second half with a 11-6 run to cut the lead to 45-39 at the 17:22 mark of the second half. UIW (14-7, 6-2) responded with a 26-8 run to build an insurmountable 71-47 lead at the 7:42 mark. The Dustdevils would get no closer than the final margin of 15 points the rest of the game.

Jasmine June led the Dustdevils with 19 points. Valerie Villanueva finished with 14 points and Krystal Manning contributed 13 points and a team-high six assists.

TAMIU returns to action on Thursday night against Lincoln. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on the home court.
