Dustdevils Fall To First Place Cardinals

Incarnate Word defeated Texas A&M International University 103-97 in Heartland Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the TAMIU Kinesiology & Convocation Building. The result wraps a season sweep for the Cardinals over the Dustdevils.

TAMIU (5-15, 3-6 Heartland) cut a 50-32 halftime deficit down to 58-50 on a layup by Spencer Foreman at the 15:01 mark of the second half. UIW (18-4, 10-1) responded with a 13-3 run to bounce the lead back to 71-53 at the 12:11 mark.

The Cardinal lead stretched to 87-63 at the 9:08 mark. TAMIU fought back steadily but would no colder than the final deficit of six points.

Derek Barnes led the Dustdevils with a career-high 37 points and a team-high five rebounds. Jerante Morgan finished with 19 points and Sean Tucker finished with 12 points.

TAMIU returns to action on Thursday with a home game against Lincoln. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
