Final Stats

St. Edward's defeated Texas A&M International University 9-6 in Heartland Conference action on Friday afternoon at Dustdevil Field. TAMIU stranded 12 runners in a loss that extended the Dustdevil losing streak to four games.

SEU (13-10, 12-7 Heartland) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings and 7-1 lead after five innings. The Hilltoppers would stretch the lead to 9-1 with a two-run sixth inning. TAMIU (10-11, 9-9) rallied for five runs on five hits in the bottom of the ninth inning but it would be too little, too late for the Dustdevils.

Rey Alvarez and Ryan Flynn finished with three hits apiece for the Dustdevils. TAMIU out-hit SEU 12-9 but the Hilltoppers benefited from two home runs compared to none for the Dustdevils.

B.J. Valadez (3-4) took the loss after allowing seven runs (five earned) in a 4.1 inning outing.

The teams will conclude the series with a doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch in the seven-inning first game is scheduled for noon.
