TAMIU Sweeps UT-Permain Basin

Final Stats

Texas A&M International University swept UT-Permian Basin in Heartland Conference action on Sunday afternoon at Dustdevil Field. The Dustdevils won the opener 7-2 and the second game 7-6 to stay perfect in Heartland Conference play with a 6-0 league record.

A three-run fourth inning pushed TAMIU to a 5-1 lead in the opener. The Dustdevils added insurance runs on a solo home run by Raynelle Tagle in the fifth inning and a RBI double by Samantha García in sixth inning.

Victoria Beltrán (10-5) picked up the win with a complete game effort. She allowed two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and one walk.

Allison Stein and Samantha Carrillo homered in the first inning of the second game to help boost the Dustdevils to a four-run frame. UTPB (2-25, 0-6) scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning but Beltrán pushed TAMIU to a 6-3 lead with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth.

The Falcons fought back to tie the score before the Dustdevils pulled out the win on a RBI single by Tagle in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Beltrán (11-5) picked up the win in a relief role. She allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits in a 2.0 inning appearance.

The teams will conclude the series with a doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Dustdevil Field.
