Final Stats
Texas A&M International University swept Oklahoma Panhandle State in Heartland Conference doubleheader action on Saturday afternoon in Goodwell, Okla. An 8-2 win in game one and 9-7 win in game two allowed the Dustdevils to salvage two wins of a seven-game Spring Break road trip.
TAMIU scored seven runs in the top of the first inning in the opener. Briana Sánchez and Samantha Carrillo finished with two RBI apiece to help the Dustdevils break a five-game losing streak.
Victoria Beltrán (14-10) picked up the win with a complete game effort. She allowed eight hits with two strikeouts and no walks.
TAMIU (21-13, 10-2 Heartland) trailed 7-5 before scoring four runs on five hits in the top of the seventh inning to get the win. Beltrán started the seventh with a solo home run and Angel Montejano capped the go-ahead frame with a RBI triple.
Courtney Smith (6-0) picked up the win in a relief role.
TAMIU returns to action next weekend with a Heartland Conference series at Incarnate Word. First pitch in Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for 4 p.m.
