TAMIU Drops Two To Incarnate Word

Incarnate Word swept Texas A&M International University in Heartland Conference doubleheader action on Friday afternoon at Cardinal Field on the UIW campus in San Antonio. UIW cruised to a 9-3 win in game one before edging the Dustdevils 3-2 in game two.

Alex Carraman hit a grand slam in the bottom of the second inning of the opener to push Incarnate Word to a 6-1 lead. The Dustdevils chipped away with two runs in the top of the sixth inning before the Cardinals secured the win with three runs in the bottom of that frame.

Victoria Beltrán (14-11) took the loss after allowing nine earned runs on nine hits in a complete game effort.

Game two was a close affair with Beltrán's RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth inning tying the score 2-2. Incarnate Word went ahead with one run in the bottom of the sixth and the Dustdevils went down in order of the top of the seventh, thus finishing off the win for the home team.

Clarissa Salinas (1-4) received the loss for the Dustdevils despite a solid outing in which she allowed three earned runs on five hits in 5.0 innings of work.

The teams will conclude the series with a doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
