Cardinals Drop Dustdevils In Heartland Conference Tourney Semifinals

Incarnate Word defeated Texas A&M International University 71-57 in the semifinal round of the Heartland Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon at St. Mary's University.

Incarnate Word led 18-8 midway through the first half and 31-24 at halftime. The Dustdevils cut the deficit to 31-28 on a layup by Krystal Manning at the 17:19 mark of the second half but the Cardinals responded with a 15-2 run to build an insurmountable 46-30 lead at the 11:49 mark. TAMIU would get no closer than 10 points the rest of the game.

Manning led the Dustdevils with 23 points and Chevelle Hoyle finished with a team-high eight rebounds.

TAMIU placed third in the Heartland Conference standings with a 10-4 record in its first season as a NCAA Division II active member. The Dustdevils finish with a 13-15 overall record.
