Final Stats
St. Mary's swept Texas A&M International University in Heartland Conference action on Friday afternoon at Dustdevil Field. The Rattlers won the opener 7-4 in nine inning before winning game two 12-4 in five innings.
Ryanne Chapman contributed a RBI double in the fourth inning of the opener to lift TAMIU to a 2-1 lead. Victoria Beltrán added a RBI single in the fifth to increase the lead to 3-1.
TAMIU starter Clarissa Salinas retired the first two batters she faced in the seventh to put the Dustdevils within one out of a win. Things went off course from there, however, with the Rattlers tying the score behind three hits and two Dustdevil errors.
St. Mary's took control of the game with four runs on five hits in the top of the ninth inning. The Dustdevils managed one run in the bottom of the ninth, on a RBI double by Angel Montejano, but the game ended on a Beltrán fly out to left field.
Salinas (1-7) took the loss for the Dustdevils.
TAMIU scored four runs (three unearned) in the bottom of the third inning of game two to take a 4-3 lead. St. Mary's answered with eight runs in the top of the fourth to take a commanding 11-4 lead.
Beltrán (14-14) took the loss after allowing 10 runs on 11 hits in 3.2 innings of work.
TAMIU (22-22) will play two Lone Star Conference opponents in non-conference play early next week. The Dustdevils will play a doubleheader at Texas Woman's on Monday and Tarleton State on Tuesday.
