Final Stats
Texas A&M International University extended its winning streak to three games with a Heartland Conference doubleheader sweep of Newman on Saturday afternoon in Wichita, Kan. TAMIU out-hit NU 20-3 to post two shutout wins, 8-0 in game one and 6-0 in game two.
Brianna Sánchez and Samantha Gárcia contributed three RBI apiece in the opener. Sánchez hit a two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to push the Dustdevils to a 6-0 lead.
Victoria Beltrán (15-15) picked up the win with a complete game six-inning effort. She allowed only one hit, a fourth inning single.
Allison Stein led the attack in game two, finishing with two hits and four RBI. Her two-out, bases loaded single in the fourth inning drove in three runs and pushed the Dustdevils to a 4-0 lead.
Courtney Smith (8-1) recorded the win with a complete outing. She allowed two hits, both singles, with five strikeouts and one walk.
The Dustdevils (25-25, 13-9 Heartland) and Jets (2-35, 2-20) will conclude the series with a doubleheader on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
