Final Stats
Lincoln swept Texas A&M International University in Heartland Conference doubleheader action on Saturday afternoon in Jefferson City, Mo. The Blue Tigers won the opener 3-1 before wrapping up a 3-1 series win with a 4-2 win in game two.
Lincoln starting pitcher Dustin Bess limited TAMIU to two hits in the opener, singles by José Sánchez Jr. in the sixth inning and Zeke Sosa in the seventh inning. The Blue Tigers got all of the offense they would need in the third inning, scoring three runs on three hits and two TAMIU errors.
B.J. Valadez (3-9) took the loss after three runs (two earned) on five hits in a 6.0 inning outing.
TAMIU out-hit LU 7-5 in game two but could manage only a two-run third inning on RBI hits by Rey Alvarez and Ryan Flynn. Lincoln scored three runs in the fourth inning and one run in the sixth to take the lead.
The Dustdevils managed only one hit in fourth through sixth innings before stringing together two singles and a walk with two outs in the top of the seventh inning. The game and threat ended, however, with a Ricky Hernández fly out to center field.
James Santillan (1-4) was tagged with the loss. He allowed four runs on five hits with four strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work.
