Hilltoppers Sweep Dustdevils With Two Shutouts

St. Edward's swept Texas A&M International University in Heartland Conference doubleheader action on Friday afternoon at Dustdevil Field. The Hilltoppers won both games 7-0.

Two St. Edward's pitchers limited the Dustdevils to three scattered hits, all singles, in the opener. The Dustdevils did not get a runner to second base against Paige Sandahl and Diana Cezeaux, who combined for six strikeouts and one walk.

Clarissa Salinas (2-10) took the loss after allowing seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits in 6.0 innings of work.

TAMIU (25-27, 13-11 Heartland) managed six hits in game two but could not score against the Hilltoppers.

SEU (36-19, 22-4) scored three runs in the top of the third inning to build a 3-0 lead. The Dustdevils got runners on second and third in the bottom of that frame but the threat ended when Samantha García struck out looking. TAMIU would not advance another runner to second base until the seventh inning.

Victoria Beltrán (15-16) was the losing pitcher for the Dustdevils. She allowed seven runs (five earned) on seven hits in a 6.0 inning effort.

The two teams will conclude the series with a doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
