Final Stats

UT-Permian Basin defeated Texas A&M International University 7-2 in the opening game of the Heartland Conference Tournament on Thursday morning at St. Mary's University in San Antonio.

The Dustdevils took a 1-0 lead on an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth inning but UTPB responded with four runs on four hits in the top of the fifth to take the lead. The Falcons put the game away with three runs on three hits in the top of the sixth inning.

TAMIU finished with nine hits, all singles. Briana Sánchez, Samantha Gárcia and Raynelle Tagle finished with two hits apiece.

TAMIU will play an elimination game tonight at 6:30 p.m., against the loser of the Incarnate Word vs. St. Mary's game.
