St. Mary's Drops TAMIU In Heartland Conference Tournament Action

St. Mary's defeated Texas A&M International University 6-4 in Heartland Conference Tournament action on Thursday night at Rattler Field in San Antonio. The loss eliminates the Dustdevils from the tournament.

Clarissa Salinas pushed TAMIU to a 2-0 lead with a two-run home run in the second inning. St. Mary's answered by scoring in the third, fourth and fifth innings to build a 6-2 lead.

Ryanne Chapman contributed a RBI single and Janelle Ruiz a RBI bases loaded walk in the top of the sixth inning to cut the lead to 6-4. Samantha García came through with a one-out single in the top of the seventh but the game ended on a fly out by Allison Stein and a line out by Samantha Carrillo.

TAMIU finishes its second season of competition with a 25-31 overall record. That win total more than doubles the wins from an inaugural season in which the Dustdevils won only 12 games.
