Midwestern State Edges TAMIU 1-0

Sept. 11, 2009

Final Stats

Fourteenth-ranked Midwestern State defeated Texas A&M International University 1-0 in non-conference action on Friday night at Dustdevil Field. On the heels of last Friday's 1-0 loss to West Texas A&M the result marks another close call against a nationally-ranked opponent.

MSU's Paul Teixiera scored the only goal of the game on a free kick. He shot the ball into the left corner of the net from 23 yards out in the 20th minute.

TAMIU (0-2-1) finished with a 12-11 edge in shots taken but Midwestern State (4-1) goalkeeper Raul Herrera was up to the challenge. He finished with nine saves for the game, including a grab of a line drive shot by a charging Roy Hernández late in the first half.

TAMIU returns to action on Monday night with a non-conference game against UT-Brownsville. That contest against the Scorpions will be the fourth-game of TAMIU's season-opening six-game homestand.
