UT-Brownsville Storms Back For Win Over Dustdevils

Sept. 14, 2009

Final Stats

Texas A&M International University's early-season struggles continued on Monday night with a 4-2 non-conference loss to UT-Brownsville at Dustdevil Field. The loss keeps the Dustdevils winless four games into a season-opening six-game home stand.

TAMIU (0-3-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead before UTB answered with four consecutive goals to claim the win. Theo Brown provided the Dustdevils a 1-0 lead with a left to right shot into the net from 26 yards out in the 11th minute. Adeyemi Gill pushed the lead to 2-0 with a successful penalty kick in the 18th minute.

UTB (4-0) started the comeback with short-range goals by Chris Scott in the 32nd minute and Juan Nava in the 40th minute. The speedy Scorpions scored both of their goals in the second half by pouncing on loose ball opportunities.

Evans Frimpong gave UTB a 3-2 lead by finding the net from 18 yards out on a shot taken on a rebound from a free kick in the 54th minute. Richard Nyarko then dashed any hopes of a TAMIU comeback when he put a loose ball into the net from 10 yards out in the 86th minute.

UTB out-shot TAMIU 16-10 for the game and 8-4 in the second half. Dustdevil goalkeeper Luis Rincon finished with six saves and Scorpion goalkeeper Juan Gamboa recorded two saves.

TAMIU will close-out the home stand with Heartland Conference games against Newman on Friday and UT-Permian Basin on Sunday.
