DBU Gets Past TAMIU In Wild Five-Set Match

Dallas Baptist got past Texas A&M International University in a wild five-set match (25-14, 18-25, 26-24, 23-25, 15-13) on Thursday night at the TAMIU Kinesiology & Convocation Building. It was the Heartland Conference opener for both teams.

TAMIU (1-13, 0-1 Heartland) held a 12-11 lead in the fifth set before Dallas Baptist (7-4, 1-0) reeled off three straight points to take a 14-12 lead. Isela Flores closed the gap to 14-13 with a kill but DBU's Brittni Nilson ended the home team's hopes for a dramatic win with a kill to the center of the court on an assist from Christina Steinkrger.

Flores led the Dustdevils with 16 kills and 19 digs. Alexandria Montemayor also had a solid match, finishing with 11 kills, 13 digs and a team-high three blocks. Nancy Rodríguez contributed a team-high 45 assists.

TAMIU will return to action with a home game on Saturday afternoon against UT-Permian Basin. First serve against the Falcons is scheduled for 2 p.m.
